JENNA ROSE
U DONE FUCKING UP THE JACKSON FIVE CHORAOGRAPHIES
YOU
YOU
YOU HORRIBLE PUNK ASS TEENAGE GIRL
alright, this is the first time I’ve seen a complaint in the jenna rose tag that isn’t ‘my jeans sounds awful I have bad taste in music’ or ‘man she’s such a whore’ so first off, congrats on finding something new to be mad at a 13 year-old girl about
I’m gonna assume this post is about this video, because that’s the only jackson 5 song on her youtube since she got hacked. we’ll get the obvious out of the way first: there are three people there, choreographies for 5 people wouldn’t work, believe it or not.
deeper in, though, I get that a group of people that michael jackson’s father, who whipped youthful michael and called him ugly, forced together for a quick buck is held dearly to you. I feel kinda the same about the beatles: if someone does something differently, they’re clearly doing it wrong. But that shouldn’t be the case. An artist, when covering another’s song, shouldn’t be constricted to the confines of the previous version. They shouldn’t be forced to do things the exact same as the older song, or else it’s not worth doing. If the second artist does the same thing as the previous artist to appeal to the original one’s rampant fanbase, it’s not something new. It’s the same thing with a weird singer. There’s no opening for interpretation, nothing that they can improve on, nothing to make it their own.
Here’s a cover of The Beatles’ Something, arguably the best song George Harrison ever did. The cover swaps out the first half of the song for a ukelele, and it turns out fantastic because of it. If they had foregone that change, then it would be just another cover of Something, only mildly interesting because Paul McCartney is singing. Here’s Robert Glasper’s cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit, and here’s the original version, by Nirvana. The songs are completely different, if you couldn’t hear the lyrics you wouldn’t think they were the same. But they’re both still good. Here’s All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. It sounds like, well, a Bob Dylan song. It’s not as great as Like A Rolling Stone, but it’s not bad, either. Here’s Jimi Hendrix’s cover. My opinion may be wrong here, but I think Hendrix’s version blows Dylan’s out of the water. If an artist isn’t allowed to reinterpret another’s song like this, if they aren’t allowed to improve upon it, then we’re stuck with one alright song and a bunch of awful covers. Instead, we have an alright song, some awful covers, and then a fantastic one. Either way you’ll get the awful ones, so you might as well let the artist play around with the song, change it, make it theirs, so one day you’ll get that fantastic version.
My third point is you are yelling at a thirteen year-old girl for dancing differently than how you want them to dance. I don’t think I need to go very in depth on why that’s wrong
